8 Epic Things to Do in Tansen, Palpa (2026)
Tansen is one of the less visited places in Nepal, and when I decided to visit it, I was not sure what to expect. It’s a chill, small town and in the end, I liked it so much, I almost felt like settling down.
Tansen is located in the Palpa District of Nepal and many times the town of Tansen is also referred to as Palpa. It is located south-west of Kathmandu, and it is so far away that it takes around 15 hours to get there by bus.
There are so many things to do in Tansen, Palpa! I loved the hike to the Shreenagar Hill and Tansen View Tower, visiting Rani Mahal (the ‘Taj Mahal of Nepal’), exploring coffee farms and trying Palpali food.

Best Time to Visit Tansen Nepal
They say that the weather in Tansen is always pleasant: it does not get too cold in the winter and does not get too hot during the monsoon season.
However, Tansen has great views of the Himalayas if you visit in autumn (October-November) and spring (March-April). Even though the weather is nice all year round, if you also want to have some good views, it is better to time it right.
If the sky is clear, you also get panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain Ranges. When I visited (January), the weather was cloudy and there were no views. My host told me that the views were clear just before I arrived, but then it got cloudy for the whole time I was there.
What is Tansen Palpa famous for?
Tansen is famous for quite a few things in Nepal, including the Rani Mahal (the “Taj Mahal of Nepal”), dhaka fabric, Palpali food, karuwa (water pot made out of bronze), and coffee farming.
I definitely recommend visiting the Rani Mahal (it’s an awesome trip), trying the local Palpali food and visiting a coffee farm.

The Shreenagar Hill is right next to the town and can be reached in about 10 minutes from the town centre. There are a couple of entry points to the hill so you can go through the one which is closest to your accommodation.
The Shreenagar Hill is not so big, so you can hike to the View Tower in about 15-20 minutes – depending on where you enter the hill.
The hike in Shreenagar Hill is a nice getaway to spend time in the nature. However, it is best if the weather is clear, so you can have great views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. I didn’t get clear views on my hike, but I still enjoyed the walk.
