After more than 15 years of traveling and living abroad, I’ve tried a lot of travel apps, booking websites and travel gear. Some were brilliant. Others… not so much.

These are the travel resources I genuinely use and recommend. They’re the ones I keep coming back to whenever I’m planning a trip, booking accommodation, trekking in the mountains or trying to avoid expensive bank fees abroad.

If you’re planning your next adventure, these are a great place to start. I’ll continue updating this page whenever I discover something that genuinely makes travelling easier.

INSURANCE

SafetyWing

I’ve used SafetyWing for years, and it’s become my go-to travel insurance. It’s affordable, easy to buy online (even if you’re already travelling), and covers the essentials like emergency medical treatment and lost luggage.

If you’re travelling long-term or visiting multiple countries, it’s one of the best options I’ve found.

HOTELS

Booking.com

Booking.com is almost always the first place I check when looking for accommodation. Whether I’m searching for a budget guesthouse in Nepal or a hotel in Europe, it usually has the biggest selection and the best prices.

Plus, if you travel regularly, the Genius loyalty programme can unlock some great discounts.

AirBnB

If I’m staying somewhere for a longer period or simply want a bit more space, AirBnb is often my favourite option. It’s especially useful if you’re looking for an apartment with a kitchen or want to experience living like a local.

Before booking, you can also reach out to the host to negotiate the prices. If you have a certain amount of budget per month, feel free to reach out to a handful of hosts, and if they agree, they can readjust the price. I have been able to negotiate the price for flats in all over Europe and Asia, it works!

ACTIVITIES AND TOURS

Whenever I want to book a walking tour, food tour, museum ticket or day trip, GetYourGuide is usually the first place I look. It has thousands of activities around the world, and I always like checking the reviews before booking.

Viator

Viator is another excellent platform for tours and activities. Sometimes I compare both GetYourGuide and Viator to see which has better availability, prices or reviews.

AirBnB Experience

Apart from accommodation, AirBnB Exeprience has all types of activities around the world. I have done cooking classes and food tours through it.

TRAVEL CARD

Wise

Wise has saved me a lot of money over the years. I use it all over Europe and Asia (including Nepal) because it offers excellent exchange rates and lets you hold multiple currencies in one account.

NAVIGATION & OFFLINE MAPS

Maps.me

Maps.me is one of my favourite apps for traveling and trekking. You can download maps before your trip and use them completely offline, making it incredibly useful when you’re in the mountains or somewhere without mobile signal. I use it all the time whenever I go trekking in Nepal.

Mapy.cz

Mapy.cz is another great offline map app, especially for hiking and trekking. It is a really good app to use for general navigation or trekking while you have no data or mobile network.

I also use it in Nepal (I use both Maps.me and Mapy.cz to complement each other and double-confirm in case the trekking route is not clearly marked.
