There are lots of Christmas markets across London, and some of the best ones are the Southbank Centre Christmas Market, Leicester Square Christmas Market, and Covent Garden Christmas Market.
The Hyde Park Winter Wonderland also opens around mid-November. It can be a a bit crowded and touristy, but they have lots of Christmas and winter activities, like ice-skating, Christmas market, and food and drinks.
GO TO A MUSEUM EXHIBITION
The weather is cold in November, so a museum exhibition is great to escape the cold outside and also to learn more about the history and culture of the UK.
London has lots of museums to choose from including history, art, and science. I have always loved that about London that it is so rich in art and history and if you ever run out of ideas of what to do in London (which is hard), you can always go to an exhibition.
For most of the museums in London, it is free to see the permanent exhibitions, and you only have to pay if you visit a temporary exhibitions.
If you stay in London long-term, you can even get a yearly membership to most of the museums. With a membership pass, you get entry to all the exhibitions.
Some of the best museums in London are the British Museum, National Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, and the Natural History Museum.
WATCH A PLAY AT THE WEST END
The West End is known for some of the best theatre plays in London and watching a play is a great activity at any time of the year, especially when the weather is cold outside!
While I lived in London, I had many friends who came to London just to see a show at the West End, which was funny as meeting up with me was only secondary to their West End tickets.
The most popular shows at the West End are Wicked, Hamilton, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Phantom of the Opera, and the Lion King.
The tickets for a West End show are around GBP 30-210 (USD 40-270). To get better prices, try to book the show well ahead in time. Sometimes you can also get discounted tickets but they are for less famous shows.
You can also try to get a discounted ticket by going to the ticket booths in the morning. They might sell a few discounted tickets for a lesser-known show for the same day, although it is not guaranteed.
SEE THE LONDON SKYLINE
- View From the Shard Ticket Cost: GBP 32-38 (General entry), GBP 45-51 (All inclusive entry). Reserve tickets here
- Sky Garden: Free but you have to reserve the tickets
The best places to see London’s skyline are from The Shard and the Sky Garden. They both offer 360 degree views of London and the best time to visit them is at sunset.
The Shard is the tallest building in London and while you have to pay for entry, you get really nice views of the city! The Shard is a nice place to celebrate a special occasion, so while it’s not free, it’s a nice experience.
The Sky Garden is in the top of the “Walkie-Talkie” building – it got its nickname as the building is shaped like a walkie-talkie. The Sky Garden is free but you have to reserve the tickets in about 3 weeks in advance.
If you are deciding between The Shard and the Sky Garden, the The Shard is a great choice if you want to celebrate a special occasion while in London. I liked the views from the Sky Garden, but The Shard is a more unique experience.
