Godawari is 18 km from Kathmandu and can be easily reached by public transport or taxis.

The taxi from central Kathmandu to Godawari takes about 30-45 minutes and costs about Rs. 1,300.

For public transport, you can get minivans to go to Godawari from the Lagankhel bus stop or also from Satdobato to Godawari.

How to Get from Kathmandu to Godawari by Bus

To get from Kathmandu to Godawari by bus, you have 2-3 options depending on where you stay in Kathmandu:

  • Option 1: Lagankhel Bus Station to Godawari
  • Option 2: Take a bus from Ratna Park to Lagankhel Bus Station, then change to a minivan to Godawari
  • Option 3: Take a bus on the Ring Road to Satdobato, then change to a minivan to Godawari.

1. Lagankhel Bus Station to Godawari

If you live near Lagankhel, this is the best option for you. You can just walk down to the Lagankhel Bus Station and take a minivan to Godawari from there.

The minivan takes about 30 minutes and costs Rs. 25.

2. Ratna Park to Lagankhel to Godawari

There are frequent buses and minivans going from Ratna Park to Lagankhel. The Ratna Park bus station is in central Kathmandu and if you stay near Thamel, you can walk there in 10 minutes.

The bus/minivan from Ratna Park to Lagankhel takes about 20 minutes and costs Rs. 25.

Where is the Ratna Park Bus Stop?

Ratna Park is quite big and there are bus stops all around the park. The bus/minivan to Lagankhel leaves from the northern edge of the park (see map below).

Once you get to the Lagankhel Bus Station, you will find the minivans going to Godawari there.

It takes about 30 minutes from Lagankhel to Godawari by minivan and costs Rs. 25. The final bus stop in Godawari is near the entry to the Godawari Botanical Garden.

3. Ring Road to Satdobato to Godawari

This option works best for you if you live near the Ring Road. Most of the buses go around in a circle on the Ring Road and make a stop in Satdobato.

Check the map which direction on the Ring Road is closest for you to get to Satdobato.

As for the bus fare to Satdobato, it will depend on where you get on the bus and the distance you go. The usual bus fare is Rs. 25 up to 10 km in Kathmandu.

Satdobato to Godawari

Once you get to Satdobato, walk down to the Satdobato-Godawari Road (see map below) and you will be able to catch there the minivans to Godawari.

Where does the bus/minivan stop in Godawari?

The final stop of the buses/minivans going to Godawari is near the entrance of the Godawari Botanical Garden. From the final stop in Godawari, you can get to the Botanical Garden in about 10 minutes’ walk.

How to Get from Kathmandu to Godawari by Taxi

Getting around in Kathmandu by taxi is the easiest and most comfortable option.

When it comes to taxis, you can either hail a taxi or book one through a Nepali taxi app (Pathao or InDrive). The Nepali taxi apps have the best prices and they work just like Uber or Grab.

If you hail a taxi, the drivers might give you a higher price and you may have to try to negotiate a bit.
